Teamwork!

feature

There is something very rewarding about teamwork.  Often it is more rewarding than doing something all on your own, because it is a lot more fun and it makes things much easier.  Yesterday, Jon and I teamed up to build a gate from scratch.  Jon set the goal a few years ago to become more handy and he as definitely accomplished that goal.  He measured everything out and had his plan in place, then I got to be his Al Borland!  Sorry, I didn’t pack any plaid shirts for added effect!

The amazing part is that together we got the entire gate built and installed in less than 2 hours.  Tackling projects as a team are similar to life experiences. When you have someone to talk things out with and bring your ideas together, life becomes easier and more fun.  It also makes you realize how quickly you can actually accomplish those nagging tasks on your to-do list, which just feels better!

We also have learned how rewarding it is to build or create something with your own two hands and seeing the tangible results from your hard work.  From painting rooms in Belgium, rectifying beautiful gardens in France, pruning and tying in vineyards in Italy, to tiling bathrooms and building gates in England.  We don’t even get paid, we are volunteering and loving it.  A huge shift from our jobs Stateside, where we were sitting at a desk and finding it difficult to see physical, tangible results from a lot of hard work.

Interestingly, people, especially men, often ask us how it is spending all our time together.  We love it.  We work so well together and have fun while we are doing it.  We are so blessed to be able to take so much time together volunteering and traveling as a team of two.
