Motivational Monday: Service

MM: service

“Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb to agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.

During my meditation this morning, this quote from Martin Luther King came to mind…you are great because you can serve!  We don’t have to be the smartest, prettiest, most handsome, well-connected person to change the world.  Simply helping another person and reaching out when someone is in need, is all we need to do to be great.

Sometimes we forget how impermanent our lives are on this earth.  We are here for just a fleeting moment.  We can’t take anything with us.  But what we give can last well beyond our lifetime.

It could be as simple as making a cup of tea for a loved one, saying hello to the homeless person to let them know you see them.  Or maybe it is a bigger commitment like coaching a little league team, volunteering for girl scouts, giving up a Saturday to work on a Habitat house.  Maybe there is something that you have felt called to do in your heart but you have been holding back, like donating to a charity or sending notes of inspiration to those recovering from addiction.  The ways we can serve are endless.

What does it mean to serve to you?  How can you help out a friend, family member, acquaintance or stranger?  How can you serve today and this week?  We would love for you to share your story.
