Motivational Monday: Dreams, The Path and The Journey

MM: I want to remember

I want to remember that no one is going to make my dreams come true for me….it is my job to get up everyday and work towards things that are deepest in my heart….and to enjoy every step of the journey, rather than wishing I was already where I wanted to end up.

Is anyone else guilty of this besides me?  Just wanting to get to the destination, reach the goal and forget about the hard work and time it takes to get there?  I am 100% guilty, but this adventure is changing things.

We are starting to get the question, are you excited for the trip to end and come home?  The honest truth is, no.  We are on a journey, there is no particular destination, and we are loving life.  We are not missing home, because we are home.

I wanted to break up this quote and focus on each area separately.

I want to remember that no one is going to make my dreams come true for me

This begs the first question.  What is your dream?  Don’t go live someone else’s dream, because you will never get that sense of fulfillment.   Don’t expect someone to make your dream happen for you, because you won’t have that sense of accomplishment.  Go after your dream!  That is where the true happiness lies, when you discover your dream, work to make it happen, and then live it!  Then suddenly anything seems possible.

It is my job to get up everyday and work towards the things that are deepest in my heart

What does your heart yearn for?  Is it a spiritual connection with the divine, serving others that need encouragement, cooking delicious meals for your family and friends, experiencing other cultures, coaching people so they eventually become better than you could have been, teaching about something you are passionate about?  What is it that pulls at your soul?  That feeling deep in your heart that you can’t ignore no matter how hard you try.  Get up everyday and put energy into that, because that is the path you are supposed to be on, right now, in this moment.

And enjoy every step of the journey rather than wishing I was already where I want to end up

Trust me friends, I am just starting to get this one.  I think part of the American way is wanting things NOW.  When people say, “It’s about the journey, not the destination.”  I used to take it very literally and think it was bull!  Who wants to take the 8-18 hour flight, in a cramped space, that you can never sleep on?  No one!   You are really excited about the destination of Paris or China or the Islands!

But the truth is, on the journey is where you learn the lessons, so you make better choices next time.  The journey is where you meet the sweet angels that guide you back on the right track.  The journey is where you make new friends and let go of relationships that are pulling you down.  The journey is where you broaden your views and let go of prejudices.  The journey is where you grow, shedding the old and expanding into a new person.  The journey is where you live life.  Who wants to miss out on all that?
