Whimsical Pézenas

pesenas feature

The Languedoc region is filled with medieval villages, but Pézenas is something special.  The narrow streets are filled with artsy shops, shops with handmade French soaps, new-age gem shops filling the street with smells of nag champa, fine art galleries, tourist art and of course clothes!  The scale of the medieval buildings makes the entire experience whimsical.

I was drawn into a classic sweet shop.  Jon was trying to hold me back because he knew it would be dangerous and he was right!  They are clever and give away samples of sweet biscuits and chocolate covered almonds.  Needless to say, the four of us ended up filling up a bag of sweeties to take with us!  It was an experience in itself!

We spent the entire afternoon wandering the streets of Pézenas.  The tourist office has great maps to offer in English and the entire city has corresponding numbers with arrows to help guide you on the right path. Out of all the place we have been so far in the region, this one was our favorite.

And for you movie buffs the town has such great architecture that many French medieval films have been set here.
