Swanage a beachy town

swanage feature

Driving south on the A351 into Swanage is a fun drive from Corfe Castle down to the coast.  You are driving along windy narrow roads and eventually come to a small hill.  When you reach the top point, the view opens up and as far as you can see ahead of you is blue sea.  At that moment you have arrived in the beach town of Swanage.

The sea breeze hits you in the face, along with the smell of sea mixed in with fish & chips cooking.  The roads have been covered with sand and no matter what time of year it is, it makes you dream of summer.

Swanage beach is a beautiful destination along the Jurassic coast of England.  It is 100% a tourist town and yet still feels charming.  The old buildings along the sea front have mostly been converted into ice cream shops or fish and chip take-away restaurants.

If you are looking for a fun time for the kids, there is a park right by the beach complete with miniature train rides, bouncy houses and bumper cars.

We had a great time soaking in the sun at Swanage beach and people watching.  But we have to tell you, we are starting to become way too comfortable in the cold weather, because we decided to drive with the top down with temperatures in the low 40s!  It was sunny out and we simply couldn’t resist!  Yes, we are now those people who come to Florida to swim and drive with the top down in the winter, that all the natives think are crazy!
