Photo Journey through Freiburg, Germany

Freiburgfeature

From Basel we took a day trip to Freiburg, Germany.  Freiburg is known as the “Jewel of the Black Forest,” and is one of the southern most cities in the region.  Part of my family immigrated from the Black Forrest region to the United States, specifically from Baden-Baden, so I was really hoping to get a chance to visit the area on our trip.  We had scheduled a volunteer exchange in the Black Forest at the beginning of our travels, but it fell through at the last minute.  So this was our chance to visit the region!

The drive through Germany border control was intimidating!  They did not stop us, but there were plenty of guards watching each car cross from Switzerland into Germany.  Definitely an experience.  It is funny even though you know you are not doing anything wrong, you still get nervous.  Just like when a police car happens to be following you, you become fully alert, even though you know you are a safe driver!

I wanted to share with you our photo journey through Freiburg.  We didn’t stay for long, but it was beautiful.  It is an interesting feeling to be in one of your mother countries from generations back.  There is a sense of belonging, even though you don’t know the language or understand all the customs, you feel connected to the land and the surroundings.
