Montpellier Zoo

Montpellier zoo

We decided to connect with our inner child yesterday and go to the zoo.  I have to be honest I don’t think either of us would have gone to the zoo if our friend, Jean, had not recommended it.  We are so glad that he did, because we had the best day!  We spent hours wandering around Montpellier Parc Zoologic.  They have done a wonderful job because it actually feels like you are taking nature paths and then just happen to see different animals along the way.

For Jon it was the first time he ever remembers going to a zoo, so everything was a fun surprise.  Jon’s favorite was watching to bears playing, hence tons of pictures of bears.  We have lots of pictures to share today, I took over 100 pictures and it was hard to narrow it down!

To get to the Montpellier Zoo take tram line 1 to Saint-Éloi, then take bus 13 towards Universities and get off at the Zoo stop.  Your single journey ticket (1.40 Euros) will pay for both the tram and the bus to the zoo.  The zoo is closed on most Mondays.  Unbelievably the zoo is free entry!  Considering how large the zoo is, free entry is very special.  There is a small charge to see the Amazon exhibit, which is a recreation of the Amazon forest, complete with rain storms every few hours!

checking for bugs

It was amazing to watch this one monkey search the entire coat of another monkey for bugs.  Watching their actions seems so human.

bear play time

The bears at play!  Jon’s favorite!

nap time

This bear was hilarious!  Totally chilling in the hole it made into a bed!

Such personality!
