Exploring Old Train Tunnels

tunnels feature

My newly adventurous girlfriends decided a day of hiking was not enough and determined they wanted to bike between a few of the towns.  If you remember my story from Amsterdam, you might know why I was a bit hesitant for this idea!  The thought of embarrassing myself in front of my friends and risking my life and those around me, was more than enough reason to resist this idea.  Luckily, my friend Kristen helped to lower the seat on the bike for me, so my feet could touch the ground when I was stopped and magically I was 100 times better riding the bike!  I am so glad because it was a beautiful and stress-free bike ride.

From Levanto you can take a beautiful bike path to Bonassola and Framura.  The bike path is through various old train tunnels and there are incredible views of the coast.  It is a bike and pedestrian path only, so there are no cars to be concerned with and for a majority of the ride we were the only people…which was a bit spooky at times in the long tunnels!  The best part was the natural air conditioning of being in the tunnels, a bonus in Italy, where air-con is a rarity!

Jon made a video of us biking…proof I really can ride a bike!  And shots of some of the beautiful views along the way (see below).

Jon got the bambino bike. The lady couldn't figure out how to detach it, so Jon told her just incase we come back with a bambino he would take it!

If you haven't seen it on Facebook, Mer captured this wonderful shot.

Along the path we also found a secluded pebble beach, with the most crystal clear blue water.  It was the perfect ending to the day.  I even did some cliff jumping with the girls…crazy I know!

My new beach accessory...an umbrella. I officially feel like a nerd!
