Bath England: A Special Spot

cresent

Bath, England is home to England’s first spa.  Thanks to the Romans that invaded the area and created a bath house over a natural hot spring around 60-70 AD.  They believed the hot spring had healing properties and created a temple to the goddess Minerva, to give thanks for the continued spring waters.  The Bath museum has done a wonderful job helping you visualize walking through the bath house during Roman times.  It is well worth the cost of admission, but the museum does double the price during the high season.  The last time I did a tour you had to pay extra to drink the healing waters, now it is part of the admission.  The water is hot from the spring, at the end of the tour, make sure you take a swig, at least to say you tried it!

For those of you that don’t know me or haven’t heard the story my mother loves to tell, Bath also holds a special place in my heart.  My mother never wanted to have children until she visited Bath, England with my father.  While staying at the Royal Crescent Hotel overlooking Bath, she decided she did want to have a child to show them the beauty of this world.  So Jon and I decided to spend some time in the courtyard at the Royal Crescent Hotel to cheers my existence!  The courtyard is incredibly romantic and the trees were beginning to bloom around us.  The sun was shining and it was the first real day of Spring weather.  Our two drinks were ridiculously priced, but as my Aunt Beth says, “Extravagance is good for the Soul!”  And sometimes the Soul needs to celebrate life!
